Os irmãos Blackwell são o melhor partido da cidade, mas a veterinária Lara não quer saber de nenhum deles.
Sua família havia sido importante naquela cidade, mas por conta dos pecados de seu pai, eles tiveram de se mudar debaixo de vergonha. Agora, ela está de volta e pretende reerguer o nome dos Montgomery. Para isso ela decide que comprar o cavalo October Sky no leilão seria o ponto de partida para o seu negócio, mas Ryder James Blackwell resolveu atrapalhar os seus planos.
O cowboy conhecido como o casanova da cidade não precisava de October Sky. Na verdade ele tinha o melhor curral da região, com os cavalos mais bonitos e caros. A compra daquele único que interessava Lara parecia mais uma provocação. Mas era um desafio do qual ela não tinha condições financeiras de lutar.
Ryder decide fazer uma proposta à doutora: que ela passasse o fim de semana no rancho dele, ajudando-o a cuidar de sua criação, já que ela vivia dando palpite de como ele deveria gerenciar o negócio bilionário dele que ia muito bem, obrigado.
A proposta é aceita.
Mas mais do que uma palpiteira em suas terras, há muito tempo a Dra. Lara era o alvo de Ryder, só que ela sempre negou os seus convites, preferindo sair com outros que não tinham metade de sua fortuna. E isso intrigava o cowboy. Se ela queria erguer um negócio sólido na pequena cidade, por que não atacar exatamente o morador mais rico da região?
Nos dois dias que passaram juntos, Ryder descobre que ele e a médica têm mais em comum do que supunham e que um ex-namorado violento pode ser um problema sério numa cidade como aquela...
Um conto delícia de ler. Sem enrolação, e sem cliffhanger. Até queria que a história fosse maior.

The Blackwell brothers are the best bachelors in town, but Lara does not want to know any of them.
Her family had been important in that city, but because of the sins of her father, they had to move under shame. Now she is back and intends to resurrect the Montgomery's name. For this she decides to buy the horse at auction, October Sky, would be the starting point for her business, but Ryder James Blackwell decided to disrupt her plans.
The known casanova cowboy did not need October Sky. In fact he had the best curral in that area, with the most beautiful and expensive horses. The purchase of that one that mattered Lara looked more like a provocation. But it was a challenge which she could not afford to fight.
Ryder decides to make a proposal to the doctor: she spent the weekend at his ranch, helping him take care of his creation, since she always talk how he should manage his billionaire business which was going very well - thank you.
The challenge is accepted.
But more than a talker on his land, for long time Dr Lara has been the target of Ryder, only she always denied his invitations to dinner, preferring to hang out with others who had not half his fortune. And that intrigued him. If she wanted to build a solid business in the small town, why not just attack the richest resident of the area?
In two days they spent together, Ryder discovers that he and the doctor have more in common than supposed and that a violent ex-boyfriend can be a serious problem in a city like that ...
A delight short story. No clutch, and no cliffhanger. I even wanted the story to be longer.
