Calix wasn’t sure why he was boarding the elevator in her steel and glass high rise, but he’d come this far. He might as well get her to her apartment.

The moment the doors closed, she leaned against the wall, and a slow bloom of satisfaction spread across her pretty features. “I did it,” she said quietly. “I freaking did it.”

Somehow standing so close to her in this dimly lit box made him forget all his reasons to stay away from her. He wanted her. Plain and simple. There was something irresistible about this girl. He caught her hand in his, brought it to his mouth, and kissed her open palm. “You did. You were fantastic.”

“You helped me.”

“Don’t think they’ll be using offal.”

“Not that.” She touched his arm, like she needed his attention. “I meant by being there. In the audience. Every time I started to freak out I looked at you, and your bad-ass energy picked me up. Every single time. I needed that.” She touched his arm. “You made me feel like I could do it.”

Mimi Romano had a dream: to work with her father, the famous Dino Romano. The problem is that every interview she did the employers were more concerned about who was her father than about her qualifications.
Her father said she needed to have experience to work with him, and not be known as the spoiled daughter. So she applied to take part in a cooking show on TV as a competition.
Her father freaked out, didn't want her to participate, but Mimi - Amelia - needed to show her value. And someone comes with the perfect qualities to help her in this endeavor ...

Calix Bourbon was the temporary keyboard player of the band Blue Fire. He was already working with them for eight months, but despite composing some songs and give some suggestions, he tried to keep as much apart of the band's decisions. He was not a fixed component. He had bigger family problems to solve. He couldn't be away from home attending tours. And he couldn't - or shouldn't - be involved with Mimi. But the reaction he had to her was greater than his willpower to stay away.
Mimi was outspoken, opinionated, strong personality and stubborn. She had a dream and was a long time after it.
When she came up with the idea of participating in the competition, even without being a chef, Calix, as a good cook, offered to help her. What he didn't expect was Mimi would be a lot more help in his life...

The characters are complex. There are many whys they shouldn't be together and the same amount of why they should.
The attraction they felt for each other was undeniable, but each had a goal in life and both were too stubborn to change their mind seeing other options.
There are scenes where I was heartbroken to see how Calix treated Mimi, but there are many other scenes that joy is contagious.
It's amazing to check how the others are going.
I can't wait to read the next one...
